Boater drowns in Kerr Lake

Two dive teams were deployed into Kerr Lake over the weekend after a passenger fell from a sailboat and drowned. The passenger was not wearing a life jacket at the time the incident occurred and fell into an area of the lake where the water depths reach over 80 feet, near buoys 7 and 8, in close proximity to the Ivy Hill Park boat landing.

Clarksville awarded grant to prepare for coal spill

The Town of Clarksville has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to pay for a spill response plan in the event Kerr Lake is impacted by a coal car derailment. The grant is funded by Duke Energy as part of a settlement agreement arising from the February 2014 coal ash spill on the Dan River in Eden, N.C.

The third annual Big Buggs Island Blues Bash will be held on Sept. 30, rain or shine, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Robbins Ballpark located at 104 Woodland Drive in Clarksville. This will be the second year that the bash will be in conjunction with the Polaris Slingshot cruise-in.
