Coast Guard commander in NC relieved of duties

The Coast Guard announced Tuesday that its North Carolina commander has been temporarily relieved of duty due to “loss of confidence in his abilities to command.” The Coast Guard did not specify what Capt. Sean Murtagh did to bring about the change in command of Sector North Carolina. [Note: This includes Kerr Lake and Lake Gaston]

Boat Ramps Reopen and Water Level Drops

The Army Corps of Engineers have reopened several boat ramps and recreation areas. As of today (Jan 11), all of the recreation areas are open except for Island Creek Day Use Area, Ivy Hill Day Use Area and Longwood Day Use Area. The Corp urges boaters to be on the alert for lots of debris in the water.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has been busy investigating a rash of break-ins and larcenies reported in the county in recent weeks. Since December 22, the Sheriff’s Office has investigated 11 crimes reported across the area. Items taken in the incidents included cash, jewelry, handguns and tools.

Ever gotten tangled in fishing line, or have you seen a fish tangled in line? It’s not good for anything or anyone so some local scouts are working to solve the problem at Kerr Lake. Eagle Scout Coleman Hopfer and his Troop 605 built and installed fishing line recycling stations at all of the Kerr Lake boat ramps managed by the state parks system this past Saturday.

The Cashion Fishing Rods 'End of Year' Team Tournament Bass Fishing Trail Qualifier #7 on Saturday, October 10th, at Kerr Lake was very interesting and the results for the 27 teams were close. Ryan Rigsbee & Bubba Haywood just barely won with 5 bass weighing 14.08 lbs to take 1st Place and 1st Place TWT for a total of $1,320!
