Boater drowns in Kerr Lake

Two dive teams were deployed into Kerr Lake over the weekend after a passenger fell from a sailboat and drowned. The passenger was not wearing a life jacket at the time the incident occurred and fell into an area of the lake where the water depths reach over 80 feet, near buoys 7 and 8, in close proximity to the Ivy Hill Park boat landing.

Clarksville awarded grant to prepare for coal spill

The Town of Clarksville has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to pay for a spill response plan in the event Kerr Lake is impacted by a coal car derailment. The grant is funded by Duke Energy as part of a settlement agreement arising from the February 2014 coal ash spill on the Dan River in Eden, N.C.

A Monday afternoon collision involving a personal watercraft on Buggs Island Lake left a North Carolina man and his stepdaughter seriously injured, with both victims airlifted to Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
