Creedmoor female angler catches 88-pound Kerr Lake catfish

As the owner of NC Marine Fabrication, Austin Sartin of Burlington has placed ample thought into the kind of rod holding systems that help people catch fish – including his own. While enjoying some down time at Kerr Lake on August 7th, Sartin tested his outfit while putting Brett Meager of Creedmoor on her personal best blue catfish, a beast that stretched their scales to 88 pounds.

[Kerr Lake] QRR flood plan receives final approval

Water management officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District have received final approval for a change to flood operations at John H. Kerr Dam and Reservoir. Under previous flood operations, stepped-up releases from Kerr were determined based on how high lake levels were in Kerr Reservoir.

The Piedmont Bass Classic qualifier on May 14th has been moved because of the high water at the Flemingtown Ramp. Tournament Director Phil McCarson says there is still water in the parking lot. So, the tournament is being moved to the "New Nutbush" ramp.

Recent heavy rainfall has caused the Kerr Lake level to rise to +308 feet mean sea level. This rise has resulted in the closure of some park areas and ramps. The following is a list of the areas that are currently affected.

Kerr Lake is expected to rise three or more feet over the next two days (through Sunday, May 8th), according to the Army Corps of Engineers. The rapid rise is due heavy and unexpected rains over the Roanoke River basin. According to the Corps, the lake could reach 307 to 308 feet (above sea level).

The 2016 Piedmont Bass Classics $10,000 Spring Team Bass Trail Qualifier #4 at Kerr Lake produced another great turnout for the PBC Trails!! The weather started out great with air temps about 49 degrees in the am on up to 65 in the pm. Water temps ranged from 58 to 64. Winds were quiet in the am and blowing up to about 10 in the pm.

Army Corps Release Sterile Carp in an Effort to Control Hydrilla

In an ongoing effort to control the growth and spread of the invasive aquatic plant hydrilla in John H. Kerr Reservoir, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers released sterile grass carp (white amur) during the month of April. The grass carp preferentially feed on hydrilla over other aquatic plants and will provide a biological approach to help control this invasive species.

Queen Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on Kerr Lake

Jeff Queen of Catawba, North Carolina, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 20 pounds, 9 ounces, Saturday to win the FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) North Carolina Division tournament on Kerr Lake. For his victory, Queen took home $4,507.
