Many Campsites & Recreation Areas Closed

With Kerr Lake near the 310 foot level, a number of campsites and recreation areas are underwater and closed. In addition, the Army Corps of Engineers, which operates the Kerr Dam, is significantly increasing the amount of water it's releasing downstream into Lake Gaston. Here's the latest information provided by the Corps and the NC Parks Department.

The Virginia Department of Transportation and local Law Enforcement continue to report numerous road closures due to the ongoing flooding. As of Friday afternoon there were 12 road closures in Halifax (VA) and Mecklenburg Counties. Additional Road closures are possible in the advisory area.

Corps closes recreation areas as lake rises

A heavy downpour over a span of several days has sent enough water rushing downstream into Kerr Reservoir to force the closure of several recreation areas on the lake by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Flood levels are expected to top out at 310 feet above mean sea level — well below flood stage on Kerr Reservoir of 320 feet, but enough to interfere with boating and camping at some Corps recreation areas.

Haire Wins Bass Fishing League Tournament on Kerr Lake

Boater Danny Haire of Yadkinville, North Carolina, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 18 pounds even Saturday to win the FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Shenandoah Division tournament on Kerr Lake. Haire took home $5,590 for his victory. According to post-tournament reports, Haire caught his fish in the Satterwhite Point area of Kerr Lake, fishing a Carolina-rigged Zoom Lizard.
