Kerr Lake Park records increased attendance

The Kerr Lake state recreation area recorded 1,099,644 visitors in 2014, up 6% from a year ago. It was among six North Carolina parks to record more than one-million visitors for the year. The others were William B. Umstead, Fort Macon and Jockey’s Ridge state parks and Falls Lake and Jordan Lake state recreation areas.

As the Granville Little Theatre reherses a stage production of "Twas the Night Before Christmas," it is celebrating its 35th year of providing the theater experience for the people of the county. The curtain will rise on "Twas the Night Before Christmas" at 7:30 P.M. Thursday in the City Hall Auditorium.

Tour de Vance coming April 27

The inaugural Tour de Vance, an event featuring three rides of varying distances along with biking activities for children, will place on Saturday, April 27. Wendy Meyer-Goodwin, an avid cyclist and Vance County resident, spearheaded the event, set up to benefit the United Way of Vance County.

Searches for the big July 4th celebration will be outside of Vance County, or waiting for the weekend. Today and tonight, the pickings are slim and none. In Warren County, the Wise community will be out in force this morning for the annual July 4th Parade and Festival.

Seasonal temperatures, not too hot and not too cold, brought out a record number of visitors to the 7th annual Lake Country Wine Festival in Clarksville on Saturday afternoon. Originally held on the lawn of the Century 21 on the Lake offices, several years ago the event expanded to include the lot adjacent to the lawn.
